What is Pop music?

Pop, which is shorthand for popular, provides a decent indication of the kind of music that is included in pop music. Pop music, to put it simply, is any song that is popular and relevant at any particular moment.

It's the song that has millions of views on its video or is always played on the radio. In the current era, pop music refers to any song created for commercial gain and meant to appeal to a broad audience, typically in technologically advanced areas significantly impacted by urban culture

Pop music through history

Now that you have a clear definition of Pop music, I believe that you’ll have a better understanding of the genre if we take a trip down history lane to observe the development of this specific type of music.

The first time the term “pop” was used to describe a piece of music that had a popular appeal was in 1926, recorded in the form of “pop song”. In fact, the 1920s is widely regarded as the time of birth of the modern music era because that’s when the recording industry started to boom.

Electronic recordings were first made during that decade, which was significant for the music business. Therefore, the majority of specialists concur that Blues, Hillbilly, and Country music served as the inspiration for Pop music as we know it today, which emerged in the 1920s.

Pop, as I indicated previously, is shorthand for popular in "pop music." This word has been the standard for characterizing the constantly evolving music that the general public enjoys ever since it was first employed. Pop music dates back a few decades before the 1950s, despite the fact that the phrase wasn't officially used until then.

With the advancement of recording, record labels and manufacturers were able to disseminate music on a far larger scale than before, reaching almost every household with music.  The fact that albums were reasonably priced also helped.

In 1930s and 1940s

The first biggest pop artists emerged in the 1930s and 1940s, thanks to American crooners like Bing Crosby (who sold millions of records and dominated radio ratings) and Frank Sinatra. (Many people, including myself, believe that Frank Sinatra was the first pop star in the contemporary sense. I mean, there was a new phenomena right there—the yelling young groupies and admirers of the man had a moniker called Bobbysoxers.) In Britain, there was also Al Bowlly.

In 1954

Elvis Presley released the hit song "That's All Right" in this year. It featured elements of blues, black rhythm and blues, and country music. The result was a classic work of rock 'n' roll. This was a first and a revolutionary action. With the help of a captivating and captivating persona, young Elvis changed youth culture by popularizing pop music and becoming the first teen idol.

In 1960s

The 1960s are often referred to as 'The Beatles' decade. This famed rock group, with their fresh, distinctive sound, ruled the Pop music scene from the early 1960s until 1970. They became the first band to ever host a stadium show when they brought the house down at Shea Stadium in New York in 1965. In June 1969, The Beatles scored their 17th consecutive number one hit.
The 1960s not only saw the first stadium performance, but they also saw the first outdoor music festivals. Pop music began to convey social concepts and deliver political statements during this decade (Bob Dylan, anyone?). The Motown record label was founded in 1960 and featured performers including The Supremes, Ray Charles, and Marvin Gaye.

In 1970s

this decade witnessed the birth of various music genres for example, Punk Rock with the English band Sex Pistols, Reggae with Bob Marley, Heavy Metal with Iron Maiden, and Glam Rock with David Bowie. The dance music genre Disco also emerged in the 1970s when the Bee Gees released Saturday Night Fever.

In 1972

Michael Jackson released his first solo song ‘Ben, which became a number 1 hit.

In 1980s

Michael Jackson released Thriller during this decade. The song's video introduced the use of video to promote music, and as MTV's popularity grew, song videos started to play an equal role in the success of its releases.
In the 1980s, Madonna also had an enormous rise to fame, ranking among the most well-known pop musicians to this day. Indie music from groups like My Bloody Valentine, The Smiths, and New Order also emerged in the 1980s. In addition, when Pop dance music replaced disco, parties gained popularity.

In 1990s and the early 2000s

Boy bands gained notoriety in the 1990s as a type of "manufactured" act, consisting of young, appealing male singers assembled in groups and forced to sing and dance to upbeat songs. Take That, an English pop group, and Backstreet Boys and NSync, two American bands, are examples of this. The Spice Girls, for instance, were a female interpretation of the same concept.
Many musical genres emerged in the pop music landscape during this time, including R&B with Beyoncé, Rap and Hip-Hop with Eminem and Ice-T, New Rock with The White Stripes, and Grunge with Nirvana.

In recent years to date

These days, pop is a global industry. It's been a long time since digital music downloads and streams took the place of vinyl and CDs. Contemporary pop music charts take into account a variety of elements in addition to physical sales and radio playing, such as the quantity of digital downloads, video views, streams, and social media influence.
Many musical genres are referenced in pop music.

Many musical genres are referenced in pop music

While it is not unusual for several musical genres to influence one another, pop music is characterized by this trait more than any other. Pop songs frequently feature elements of Latin, Rock, Country, Dance, and Urban music.

Pop musicians occasionally even include a certain chorus or catchy lyric into their songs after obtaining the licensing to do so. A prime example of this is the chorus from O-Zone, a Moldavians Eurodance outfit, that became an all-time hit song in Rihanna's song "Live Your Life."

It is also well known that certain pop musicians are influenced by classical music and topics. Frequently, they take inspiration from them or even imitate the entire melody. As an illustration.
